Castle Douglas
The nearby market town, Castle Douglas, is known as the 'Food Town'. It is full of bakeries, delis, greengrocers, cafes, fishmongers, sweet shops, restaurants, a brewery and many other small boutiques ideal for finding special presents for Christmas and birthdays. Regular events are held throughout the year offering a wide range of food and drink to sample the delights of what Galloway has to offer.
Kirkcudbright
Kirkcudbright is famously known as the 'Artist's Town'. Within this working harbour town there are several galleries which also hold art and craft exhibitions throughout the year. In June there is a jazz festival and further into the summer months there are many festivities ending in a grand tattoo at the end of August.
Wigtown
Within Wigtownshire there is Scotland's national booktown, Wigtown. This town is full of bookshops and other book related businesses. It also holds several literary-centred festivals throughout the year. The booktown also extends into the local village, Bladnoch, home of Scotland's most southerly malt whisky.
